In the late 2000s, enrollment in USA Hockey youth programs was dropping. Even in Connecticut, a state with a long and rich tradition of ice hockey, numbers were dwindling, especially amongst second and third-year participants. To highlight the players and build excitement for the sport, a joint venture was conceived between Tom Regan, then President of CT Hockey Conference, and Ken Dixon, owner of an online marketing company and active developer of hockey programs in Connecticut. This venture became GottaLoveCTHockey in 2010.
The objective was clear, create video content where youth players were the stars of the show. Throughout the 2010-2011 season, we produced thirty episodes. Word quickly spread and teams were continually asking to be featured. The initial season was a success! The coverage provided a window into the youth hockey world and showcased the dedication and impressive skill that players demonstrate each season. During that first year, the question shifted from, "Do we continue with GottaLoveCTHockey for another season?" into "How could we not continue?"
Almost fourteen years later, GottaLoveCTHockey has created over 1,000 videos. We've covered hockey drills, skill exercises, goalie tips, mental performance, interviews featuring professional players and college coaches, and much, much more. Through it all, youth hockey games remain at the very core of our content. These up-and-coming players are still the stars of their show and it is our privilege to shine a spotlight on insights into their lives and THEIR GAME!
At GottaLoveCTHockey we're constantly striving to keep families engaged and focused on the fun associated with the challenging sport of ice hockey. In doing so, we aim to grow the Connecticut hockey community to be stronger, smarter, and more connected to a sport that is easy to love. As we say, You Just Gotta Love Connecticut Hockey!
